Each year millions of people of faith travel to Israel to worship in the holiest city of the world, Jerusalem. Present day Jerusalem is a busy city divided into religious quarters. Christians, Muslims, Jews and Arminians, along with many others flood the old city and care for the hundreds of churches and chapels that mark the locations where Jesus lived and died.
This lenten season the theme of our mid-week services is “If Places Could Talk.” Each Wednesday we will view a short video of the present day locations of Jesus’ suffering and death. For many of us who have heard the passion history again and again, the truth of Jesus’ ministry comes alive and clear when we view these locations with our own eyes.
The greatest blessing of our journey however is not to see a garden or a courtyard. In these real locations Jesus showed his real love for each of us! Our Savior walked and bled on these sites so that our sins would be paid for and forgiven. If these places could talk they would surely repeat the words of 1 Peter, '“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
