30 Hour Famine 2018

During the Famine, our 8th-12th graders will be giving up their phones and internet access. They are unplugging to raise money for kids around the globe who are born into extreme poverty. During the famine, they will do activities and service projects to raise awareness about world hunger. This event is March 9th- 10th. Its starts on Friday at 5:30 PM and ends on Saturday at 8:00 PM.

Students (and even adults) can "Unplug for a Hunger-Free World" even if they have other things going on this weekend. Sign up to get a shirt, and let Joel know which parts of the weekend program you will be able to join us for. Or set your phone aside on friday night, and do a technology fast at home until Sunday morning.

There will be a Famine Dinner for all ages on Saturday, March 10th at 7:00 PM at Living Hope. Donations from this will help feed the hungry, and the students will teach the congregation about their experience.

How you can help:

1. Sign up. Students should sign up on this page, so they can reserve their free t-shirt. After they register here, they can create an online fundraising page by heading to this link: https://youth.worldvision.org/team/bllh.

2. Give. Every $40 we raise can help feed and care for a child for one month. Make checks out to World Vision and give them to the contact person below, or visit our fundraising page at https://youth.worldvision.org/team/bllh.

3. Volunteer. There are many ways you can help. We especially need drivers for our Saturday afternoon service project. Join us for an eye-opening Famine weekend.

4. Pray. Ask God to bring us together and to help those in need every day.

30 Hour Famine - 2017

We are so thankful to have had a healthy and safe fast. We interviewed some of the students to hear about their experience. I hope it motivates you to think about ways you can support people in need around you. It sure has motivated us! We look forward to another Famine event in 2018.

REACH Mission Trip <June 23-30>

Our students who go on this trip will join with about 300 other Christian teens to make an impact on the community of Greenville, South Carolina. We will spend the week making repairs to people’s homes, to make them safer, warmer and drier. The teens will grow friendships and create new ones through this exciting experience. Each day, there is time dedicated to large group spiritual growth and small group discussion time. We will work hard, play hard, and we pray that God impacts the community through our efforts.

COSTA MAYA Mexico Trip <July 7-14>

Our congregation partners with a church in Mahahual, Mexico (four hours south of Cancun). During this trip, our teens will help Costa Maya Ministries run the first week of a four-week youth program in their community. Our students will be teaching the children English, and Bible stories. The neighborhood kids will join us to play games, make crafts, and sing songs of praise. This trip is for students who have taken at least two years of Spanish. We plan on being partners with this ministry for a long time, so start learning Spanish now so you can join us in the future!

What can you do to make these trips a success?

Encourage a teen. Students have so many opportunities and priorities. Take some time to talk to students in your circle of influence about the impact that a mission trip can make on them and the way God has gifted them to serve.

Sign Up. Now is the time for teens and adults to apply to be a part of these two trips. Registration information and applications are here:

Donate. We ask that you consider giving a gift to help make these trips affordable for students and their families. There are giving pages set up at givesendgo.com/reach and givesendgo.com/costamaya

Pray. One of the best parts about being a church is the way God multiplies our efforts as we gather together. We consider every day of ministry a group effort. One way that you can support our students is to pray for these trips. Pray not only for safety, but for transformation. We ask that God would transform us by His Spirit and use us to Make Christ Known in the communities we serve.

Vertical Encounters is our High School youth group serving the 9th through 12th graders at BLH.  This group is led by Joel Hansen, our Youth Minister, as well as Matt and Kelsey, our student leaders.

We exist to:

  • live in community with other teens

  • be active members of our church

  • develop a lifestyle of walking with Christ every day.

On Sunday nights, we look forward to gathering together with other Christian teens.  It is a great time to connect through snacks and games, and to discuss issues that are looming large in our lives.  We do our best to blend in solid Biblical study with real-life applications on the topics in front of us each week.

Join us for a lively discussion about faith, friends and how Christ encounters us in the midst of our everyday lives.

If you haven't already, please complete our online Youth Registration form so we can best prepare for the year.  We have many events planned, check out our upcoming events below, we hope you can join us.
